The DBS is Aston Martins new lightweight high-performance 2-seat coupe that combines the race-bred technology of the DBR9 and DBRS9 with the DB line of elegant coupes that can be traced back to the DB2 and the DB4 GT. Based on the same VH architecture as the DB9 and DBR race cars that combines pressed, extruded and cast aluminum components, the DBS structures is rigid but lightweight. The DBS is the first Aston Martin to make extensive use of ultra-light carbon-fiber body panels and the front mid-engine layout combined with a rear-mounted transaxle, results in a near-perfect weight distribution with 85 percent of the total weight within the wheelbase. The DBS has wider front and rear tracks than the DB9, with a new front bumper design and a carbon-fiber splitter.
The 2008 Aston Martin DBS is powered by a 6.0-liter V12 engine with revised intake flow and a higher compression ratio to produce 510 horsepower. A new Adaptive Damping System with five different positions adjusts the ride and handling characteristics of the DBS and a revised Dynamic Stability Control System is designed for maximum traction in varying conditions. The DBS features Aston Martins first use on a road car of Carbon Ceramic Matrix (CCM) brakes for lighter weight, shorter stopping distances and excellent resistance to fade.
